Apple Offers Free Board Replacement For Defective iPhone 8 Logic Boards

iPhone 8

Don’t continue to expect such magnanimity.

Apple revealed late on Friday that they would be offering logic board replacements for the iPhone 8. According to the page for the replacement program:

Apple has determined that a very small percentage of iPhone 8 devices contain logic boards with a manufacturing defect. Affected devices may experience unexpected restarts, a frozen screen, or won’t turn on. Apple will repair eligible devices, free of charge.

Affected units were sold between September 2017 and March 2018 in Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Macau, New Zealand, and the U.S.

If your iPhone 8 has an eligible serial number, Apple will repair it, free of charge. Use the serial number checker below to see if your device qualifies for this program.

This program only applies to the iPhone 8; not the iPhone 8 Plus, or any other iPhone models. Thankfully, the page for the replacement lets you check to see if your serial number is in the affected range. Also, if you have any other physical damage, that will have to be fixed first (cracked screen, etc.) which means you’ll be paying for that before the free logic board replacement. If things have been going well for you, though, the program will run for three years from the original retail sale of your device. That is not an extension of the warranty, either.
