Apple Introduces $99 Smart Battery Case

Smart Battery Case

Battery cases are nothing new. Smartphones have increased in processing power on a scale that has far surpassed the current level of battery technology. I’m lucky to have my phone last until 3pm without having to plug it in. If you are like us and travel to various conventions, you will no doubt see huddles of people congregated around the nearest power outlet. There is a lot of money to be made from battery cases –we get emails weekly about new battery packs coming out– and Apple seems to be catching on.

Their Smart Battery Case will run you $99 and is comparable with the iPhone 6 and 6s. The battery itself features a 1,877mAh battery that will allow you to get through the day, even under moderate to heavy use. Apple says that you can expect 25 hours of talk, 22 hours of HD video playback, or 18 hours of LTE web browsing. The case is available for sale today, but many may not be all that thrilled with it. The main issue many people may have is that the case comes in a silicone shell that simply doesn’t fit with the clean atheistic that Apple is know for.

This case would be great if it came out alongside the phone. Other companies have been in this market for quite some times and are currently offering up much nicer looking cases at a lower price point. The Smart Battery Cases is step in the right direction for Apple, and is perfect for those Apple fans that demand only first-party accessories.
