You own nothing! Good day, sir!
So, I’m guessing that, like many of the tech idiots out there, you thought you owned all of those movies you bought on iTunes, just like with every other digital platform. Well, think different! Because Apple is currently demonstrating just how wrong you are. How? Well, for some users, Apple has been deleting movies that they had purchased through iTunes.
To be fair, most of the users who are reporting these happenings are located in Canada. And, in the case of one such user, his complaints were met with an offer for a $5.99 movie rental. Coincidentally, he’d had 3 films deleted from his account. When he told them that that hardly seemed a fair deal, they responded; “our ability to offer refunds diminishes over time. Hence your purchases doesn’t meet the conditions for a refund.” They later shot back an offer for two free rentals, but that still really isn’t just compensation, is it? He was then pointed to their legal terms of service when told he wasn’t entitled to compensation for his lost purchases.
Most complaining about the deletions are absolutely gobsmacked to hear from service representatives that iTunes is just a “store front”, and has no real recourse if a studio decides to repeal a title from their library. That said, a few have had luck getting refunds for the removed movies, but I’d imagine it was like pulling teeth. From an angry shark. Gee, it’s almost like the entire company is run that way. And it keeps getting away with it due to its legion of fans telling you it’s your fault something bad happened, and have you tried flagellation for your sins against holy Jobs?
But perhaps I digress. Because it doesn’t end there. Some are also having their 4K purchases downgraded to HD. And in the case of movies bought simultaneously across several platforms, those purchases are still 4K on the other platforms. Is Apple going to explain it? Probably not! Or at least not in a satisfactory manner.
