An accurate prediction.
An analyst from Cowen (Doug Creutz) has predicted that Battlefield V is going to seriously underperform for EA this Holiday season. In a note, he stated:
EA’s Battlefield V currently appears to potentially be headed for serious disappointment.
According to him, it is lagging behind in pre-orders when compared to the likes of Call of Duty, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Assassin’s Creed.
If we had to pick one game to be a casualty of the crowded October window, this would clearly be it.
This is very far off the tracking levels of previous Battlefield titles in 2011, 2013, and 2016. With a release date directly in between CoD and RDR, we worry that BFV could be headed for a similar fate as 2016’s Titanfall 2, which got squeezed out by its launch date directly between Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.
Granted, he’s pointing out a number of potential reasons, which seem impartial. I’d have been more like to point out that it’s an EA game, that they’ve been shitting in the well for a while now, and, I need to reiterate, it’s an EA game. They pretty much turned not only their fanbase against them, but the rest of the industry with Star Wars Battlefront II. So, it not getting expected pre-orders did not come as a surprise.
