“You’re my little stimmy champ.”
If you’re looking into PC gaming, there’s really little way around it; you need some form of GPU. Plenty go the integrated route, which does lower the barrier a bit. But AMD has a new card that also brings the power into a reasonable range: the AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT. And it will only run you $479.
The RX 6700 XT is set to launch on March 18th, alongside all the usual suspects. Notably, HP has announced that they’ll be placing the card in their Omen 25L and 30L, alongside an option for an AMD Ryzen 9 5900X, which gives access to AMD’s Smart Memory Access.
Spec-wise, the RX 6700 XT is similar to its 5700 brothers, but does benefit from a jump in some areas. Primarily, it features RDNA 2 architecture (ray tracing acceleration), as well as 12GB of dedicated GDDR6 memory to handle all these graphics.
That said, while the RX 6700 XT is priced for the entry level, that might not wind up being the case. The real trick will be keeping cryptominers, bots and scalpers from laying claim to the first lot and inflating that price on the secondhand market to the point it’s no longer an entry level card. AMD has no announced plans for dealing with this problem, in contrast to NVIDIA, which throttled cryptocurrency mining performance in an attempt to stave off the usual vultures.
