No you didn’t read that wrong, Amazon has just launched a new service to by the name of Prime Now. As the name would lead you to believe, the service lets Amazon Prime members order over 25,000 “Daily Essentials” and have them delivered within the hour.
I can here you all screaming, “Shut up and take my money!” but the service currently has a few caveats. Amazon Prime users can only order specified items that seem to shift on a daily basis. Users will also be required to use the Prime Now smartphone app as your only means of ordering as desktop functionality is not currently available.
“What’s it going to cost me?” Well the Prime Now will cost you a delivery fee of $7.99, but Amazon will waive the fee if you are willing to wait for two-hours. There is always one thing that will probably burst your collective bubbles; The Prime Now service is only available in one zip code in New York City with plans to expand to more areas of NYC in 2015 and to major hubs in the future.
While their whole drone delivery service may be on hold, I am all for getting my packages in less time than it takes me to watch a movie. In a city New York where heading out to do some basic shopping can be a huge hassle this service is a fantastic opportunity for Amazon to keep expanding and for people to get their toothpaste in record time.
