The Batman prequel that has no Batman.
Gotham‘s nearing its final season, as well as the obvious change that you’ve all been waiting for. But, Bruno Heller isn’t done with the Bat-mythos yet. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Epix has given the green light to a 10-episode, direct-to-series order for a show called Pennyworth, from Heller.
The show will “explore Alfred’s origins as a former British SAS soldier who forms a secret company and goes to work with Thomas Wayne—Bruce’s billionaire father, in 1960s London.” And despite Heller’s involvement, it’s of no relation to Gotham.
If the most basic premise (Alfred gets a movie/series/etc. to himself) sounds familiar, there’s a reason. It’s been done as a joke a few times.
Who knows; it might be a good show, especially if they set up some of the longer term parts of Batman’s gallery ahead of time. Either way, Pennyworth goes into production this year, and is set to debut sometime in 2019.
