Adventure Time “Be Sweet”

At first blush, this one doesn’t seem remotely connected to last night’s episode of Adventure Time. But don’t worry; they’ve established that something is going to happen by Friday’s episode. And this one does feature something relating to that.

Lumpy Space Princess lives in the woods. It’s mostly to do with her being something of a self-centered jerk most of the time. So it’s surprising that she’d pretty much be Tree Trunks’/Mr. Pig’s first call when they need a babysitter. So you can imagine that she immediately accepted the job and proceeded to completely shirk her responsibility in favor of eating all of their food and taking full advantage of the amenities of an actual house.

Earlier in the episode, LSP gets into a fight with a raccoon over a fried chicken leg. It continues to haunt her throughout the episode, acting somewhat similar to a Greek Chorus. At the windows, in the house, and, most creepily of all, rising out of the toilet to condemn her lax attitude to the responsibilities she took on while she’s taking a bubble bath.

Did I mention that it has the voice of a hellspawn? It does.

While LSP neglects him, Sweet P wanders off in search of the affection he’s so used to, leaving Sweet-P-shaped holes in walls and windows he passes through. As you might imagine, the people who aren’t lackadaisically towards him are outright terrified of him, despite his impossibly sweet voice. This eventually leads to the Banana Guards apprehending him, making it one of the only times they’ve actually been successful at their jobs, especially since the death of Root Beer Guy.

I forgot to mention that Marceline calls LSP during her bubble bath. I have no idea why Marcie‘s belly button is filled with worms and insects.

Suddenly realizing that the raccoon was right and she done goofed, LSP sets out to find Sweet P, panicking the entire time. After a tussle with the Banana Guards over a donut one of them dropped (she jumps on food like a feral animal), she gets hauled in to the station and finds Sweet P there. Somehow remembering the incredibly complex tuck-in directions Tree Trunks gave her while she wasn’t listening, She puts him to sleep right there in the station. After giving him the donut she picked up off the street, which was dirty and covered in hair.

Tree Trunks and Mr. Pig come home to find the house an absolute wreck from LSP’s fight with the raccoon. It isn’t quite explained how she got him home, considering Sweet P is one of the larger characters in the series. She naturally gets kicked out, despite her wish to take the live-in nanny job they never offered in the first place. The raccoon, approving of her character development, offers to share the chicken leg with her.

Inside, Tree Trunks checks on Sweet P, and he tells her that he’s been having the same dream again. The one involving a comet. He mentions a fake comet with a bearded man (obviously Finn‘s father, Martin). Tree Trunks passes it off as an active imagination. But we know, thanks to Finn’s Cosmic Owl dream a few episodes back, that something involving the two of them will happen.

Final Thoughts:

  • “Partake of the chicken.”
  • I almost suspect that the raccoon’s ability to talk could be attributed to a psychotic break on LSP’s part.
  • The comet approaches.
