We have ben getting reports all morning that Swedish police have raided the major Torrent site The Pirate Bay. At the time of this writing the site still seems to be down with no telling when, or if, it will ever come back online.

For those of you not in the know about these things, The Pirate Bay is a Swedish website that plays host to thousands upon thousands of torrent files that are of a dubious nature. In laymen’s terms it means that most corporate entities that produce content see The Pirate Bay as a portal to share copyrighted films, music, games, and more.

Sweden has been notorious for having relatively lax laws when it comes to copyright enforcement and as such The Pirate Bay has been a long hated site, one that movie and music studios have long since fought to shut down. While the site has seen temporary shutdowns in the past this time things are different as the Swedish police are involved.

At the moment Swedish Police have confirmed toTorrentFreak (ablog dedicated to reporting the latest news and trends on the BitTorrent protocol and file sharing) that the site’s serverswere seizedin connection with a broad intellectual property operation.
