Improves speed by 70%.

GTA Online has some pretty nasty load times. It’s a well documented fact. So much so, that when a player released a fix for them that improved times by up to 70%, Rockstar took notice.

User tostercx provided the fix here, noting that it was unsupported “proof of concept, not for casual use.” He even documented the methodology, noting the issue “shouldn’t take more than a day for a single dev to solve.”

Well, it took a bit longer than that for Rockstar to actually implement it, but they did verify tostercx’s findings. Via a statement the company made to PC Gamer:

After a thorough investigation, we can confirm that player t0st did, in fact, reveal an aspect of the game code related to load times for the PC version of GTA Online that could be improved. As a result of these investigations, we have made some changes that will be implemented in a forthcoming title update.

There’s no word on when these fixes will go live just yet. But it’s all been tostercx’s benefit. Rockstar awarded tostercx $10,000 from their bug bounty program for this fix. Normally, that amount is reserved for security or privacy-related issues that get discovered. In this case, however, Rockstar deemed it an exception, likely given the massive performance boost.
