That last one’s got me interested.

The Official Pokémon Channel put up a presentation today, concerning some of their upcoming games. So, let’s dig in to some of the morsels presented.

New Pokémon Snap

Pokémon Snap is one of those things that seems like it would be an immediate crowd-pleaser (which it is), so the fact that it took them 20 years to port the original is baffling. Nonetheless, the New Pokémon Snap features much the same gameplay as the original, it seems, but with way more on offer. New Pokémon and variants, new region (the Lentil region), even new gadgets to help you get great shots of Pokémon. One of them even make mons hit with it glow in the dark!

New Pokémon Snap is slated for a April 30th release this year.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

Releasing for the Switch sometime later in 2021 are the remakes of Pokémon Diamond & Pearl people have been clamoring for since, well, it feels like forever. Attention was paid to keep the games as true to the original as possible, but there are some new quality of life features snuck in here and there.

Also, they decided that the 3D overworld models should look squat like the sprites from the original game. I’m not sure how popular that decision has actually been.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus

Pokémon Legends: Arceus is probably the one that really got my attention out of the presentation. Mostly because it’s genuinely something new and unusual for the franchise. It’s an action-RPG hybrid with Pokémon battles, and the real kicker is the setting. It’s the Sinnoh region… X-hundred years ago. Complete with steampunk-y poké balls, and a seting that seems to split the difference between ancient and Meiji Restoration-era Japan (or at least, it seems so to me).

There’s little information in regards to the game in its segment, and frankly I want to know more. But we’ll have to wait for it, since Pokémon Legends: Arceus has a projected release in 2022. Hopefully, we won’t be waiting too long for news.
