There’s breaking international copyright law, and then there’s breaking international copyright law.

Look, it’s one thing to sort of piss of a developer. It’s another thing to get them really pissed off. And when it comes to Koei Tecmo’s Dead or Alive sries, there are a few things that will get the devs really upset. While they may have been frontrunners in the field of jiggle physics, and put out a series of beach volleyball games emphasizing that, Team Ninja doesn’t like it too much when fans go a bit too far over the line. They have, in fact, taking something of a harsh stance on certain mods (*cough*nude*cough*) in the past when they released DoA 5 for PC.

Which brings us to today. Koei Tecmo has announced a lawsuit against a third party that has been selling a DVD featuring nude-modded footage from their games, notably including Dead or Alive Xtreme Venus Vacation (which, coincidentally, is not available in the West, despite the fact that Steam has actual porn games now, good job whiny babies). They eventually released an English version of this announcement, reproduced in full below:

Reproduction (including some modifications), distribution, and distribution of our copyrighted work without our permission is an act that infringes the rights of the copyright holder and is illegal.

We will take decisive measures against such illegal acts. We will continue to take strict measures against copyright infringement and strive to provide games that satisfy our fans.

We don’t deny derivative work but we may take action based on

a) discomfort felt by our fans and

b) the feelings of the developers.
