Devs And Publisher Behind XIII Remake Apologize, Blame Viral Pandemic For State Of Game

XIII Remake

It looks scuffed.

So, that remake of XIII kinda looks terrible. Aside from a bunch of graphical glitches, bugs, and clipping, it has one major egregious sin: it doesn’t look like it’s supposed to. Not only are characters, in some cases, almost completely changed, the game is entirely devoid of the cel-shaded aesthetic that the game was known for back when it launched in 2003.

Needless to say, it’s been panned on the internet quite hard. Particularly on Steam.

And so, both the developer, PlayMagic, and Microids have apologized for it. They note that the remake does not live up to expectations, and blame that on the Coronavirus Pandemic.

First and foremost, we would like to offer our most sincere apologies for the game’s technical issues. In its present state, XIII does not meet our quality standards and we fully understand players’ frustrations. The pandemic has impacted the game’s production on many levels. Pivoting to home working for the teams has added unexpected delays in the development schedule and the QA process. We hoped we would be able to provide a Day One patch fixing all the issues but the development of this update is taking more time than expected.

We want to assure you that PlayMagic is working hard to solve all the game’s issues. With live monitoring and multiple patches in the upcoming days and weeks, we hope to reach the quality level we all expect for the optimum gaming experience. The first update will be pushed shortly to fix the most urgent issues regarding the controls, frame rate, collisions, rendering and sound.

They say that they plan to patch these issues in the coming weeks. That said, the damage may already be done; people don’t exactly leave multiple paragraph reviews on Steam pointing out exactly what’s wrong if they ever really plan on coming back to it. Even less so when it’s a meme or joke review. Still, if you’re stuck with it, there may be light at the end of the tunnel.
