Sony Reon Pocket Is A Wearable Air Conditioner That Actually Works

IN many parts of the world and around the world, summer means sweltering heat. That might be from having to be outside for periods of time or even inside because running an AC all day will tap your savings dry faster than a new PS5.

Well, Sony has you covered with their Sony Reon Pocket portable air conditioner. Announced last summer and intended to release in time for the Tokyo Summer Games. the device is finally on sale even though the games are on hold.

The unit works alongside a custom t-shirt that allows the unit to be suspended between the shoulders just under the neck. It’s a neat looking device and I’m sure anyone with some basic sewing skills could modify any shirt for it.

The Reon Pocket takes advantage of what is known as the Peltier effect to serve as a heat pump that Sony claims can cool a wearer by some 23 degrees. That’s a mighty impressive claim, especially as I sit here with the AC blasting and dreading going outside to even get into by car.

But with such a small device you can’t expect this thing to cool you all day like some Back To The Future piece of magic technology. The rechargeable battery is rated for anywhere between two to four hours of coolness.

You use the device via the connected app which allows you to activate it when you need it most. The best part is that the Reon Pocket is surprisingly affordable for the comfort it offers. Sony is listing the unit on its own store for $120.

That might seem like a lot for most people but the ability to cool yourself down when walking about in the summer heat will be priceless to a lot of people. I’m already debating getting one shipped over the more I peak out my window and see my car burning in the sun.
