I’m gonna be honest with you: I’ve never once watched James Cameron’s FernGully: The Last Catbender Avatar. Mostly because I was of the opinion that 3D was a stupid fucking gimmick.
AND I WAS RIGHT!
But that’s neither here nor there. What is here and there is that, in addition to being a movie about blue cat people having brain sex with every animal on their planet, the marketing for the movie featured one of those stock “artsy” typefaces that have been around forever: Papyrus. A typeface (created in 1982) which even it’s creator thinks is overused.
Well, it only took years of derision, and an SNL sketch featuring Ryan Gosling:
…but finally, now that Disney owns 20th Century Fox, Avatar has finally replaced the Papyrus typeface on promotional materials for the film, starting with Disney+. Here’s how it looks now:
Well, that’s done. Hell, if we can abolish Comic Sans, we’ll be ahead of the game once this pandemic is done.
