The Xbox Series X console will be able to play games from all Xbox consoles
Microsoft has announced something pretty enticing for Xbox fans through the ages with word that the upcoming Xbox Series X will be backward compatible with all previous Xbox console generations.
Now, that doesn’t mean every single game will work, a problem already seen already with Xbox and 360 games playing on the Xbox One. For now, everything that is currently compatible on Xbox One will also move over to Xbox Series X. The company is currently working on their list of Xbox One games that will be backwards compatible on the Series X
The shame is that Microsoft seems to be teasing this as something bigger than it truly is as the Series X won’t be able to play every single game on every single Xbox console. To be fair, sticking two console consoles in the Series X would bump up the cost out of the range of most everyone. Just go back and see how expensive the Phat PS3 was when it first released with a PS2 essentially stuffed into it.
Emulation is the way to go but emulation is more an art and getting games from only a generation ago to work on a new console is a tough prospect. Hell, I’m still seeing issues with emulators correctly doing audio and graphics on systems from the 16-bit generation on PCs more powerful that a current console.
