Pokémon Direct Shows Off Galar Starters Gigantimax; Inteleon Goes Silent Scope

Pokémon

Sniping’s a good job, mate.

Well, the Pokémon direct happened today. And, in addition to Pokémon Mystery Dungeon getting a port to the Switch, Pokémon Sword & Shield are getting a massive update. Some 200 new Mons are being added to the game, and a number of existing ones are getting new Gigantimax forms. Notable, the Galar region starters.

Of course, the one that grabbed everyone’s attention was, in fact, the one who winds up getting a gun. Thus making Pokémon Gun a true reality. And I’m not the only one to think it:

Inteleon is, even in his base state, something of an homage to James Bond. He normally holds one of his hands like a pistol to begin with. But now, his Gigantimax form gives him a rifle and a sniper’s nest made of water.

This technically isn’t the first time guns have been referenced in Pokémon. But, uh, most previous times were in the early seasons of the anime:

Admittedly, there also were some actual Pokémon that were gun themed. Originally made for Gold & Silver, both Remoraid and Octillery were more… conventional arms themed than is usual for Pokémon.

In his base form, Inteleon is a pretty overt homage to James Bond. He even holds one of his hands in a finger-pointing gesture as if it were a gun! But, it’s hard to deny that this is a fountain of memes now.
