EA might be returning to Steam

Back in 2011 EA left Steam with the launch of Battlefield 3 to start their own little game selling platform in Origin. It has been pretty hit or miss, but I’ll tell you that the only time my account on a sales platform was compromised was on Origin. Thankfully, I have no money and all they bought were a few bucks in FIFA coins, or whatever they use.

I don’t know sales numbers for Origin or any of the games on the platform. What I do know is that sales through Origin are probably far less than sales would be through Steam. EA looks to be taking note as the love, love, love taking money and being terrible.

The recent hint of EA posting a coffee cup steaming suggest they are coming back to Steam in some capacity. Chances are buying a game on Steam and playing it will simply launch a custom launcher instead of going completely through Steam. Ubisoft does this as well a several MMOs on the platform.

It makes a lot of sense for the company to head back to Steam because of the huge community and engagement. Most games won’t really matter but something like Apex Legends would probably see a boost in player numbers being made available through Steam.
