Mousejacking. There, I said it.
A little ways back, hackers discovered that it was possible to hack into a PC through a security loophole in Logitech’s wireless dongles for keyboards and mice. Per The Verge, some of the dongles that are being shipped out as you read this don’t have the loophole patch installed on them.
The hack in question is dubbed “Mousejack” and affects Unifying Receiver and G900 wireless gaming mouse dongle. While Logitech did create security patches for both devices back in 2016, they may not have been applying said patches on the assembly line, and some unpatched products are likely still at retail in that state. From Logitech’s statement to The Verge:
Logitech evaluated the risk to businesses and to consumers, and did not initiate a recall of products or components already in the market and supply chain. We made the firmware update available to any customers that were particularly concerned, and implemented changes in products produced later.
The patch is fairly easy to apply, though. All you need to do is download the files here (Logitech Unifying receivers) (Mac) and/or here (Logitech G900 gaming mouse), then run the files and follow the onscreen instructions. Which, if you own any of these devices, is something you should do, posthaste.
