Anthony And Joe Russo To Develop Magic: The Gathering Animated Series For Netflix

Magic: The Gathering

Maybe they’ll explain complex banding in a satisfactory manner.

Fresh off of Avengers: Endgame, the brothers Russo have struck up a deal with Netflix. And the result is an animated series based on Magic: The Gathering. Per Netflix:

The Russos will oversee the creation of an all-new storyline and expand on the stories of the Planeswalkers, which are Magic’s unique magic-wielding heroes and villains as they contend with stakes larger than any one world can hold.

Alongside the Russos, both Henry Gilroy (Star Wars: The Clone Wars) and Jose Molina (Agent Carter) work as co-showrunners. The Russos are, however, pretty jazzed about it all.

We have been huge fans and players of Magic: The Gathering for as long as it has been around, so being able to help bring these stories to life through animation is a true passion project for us.

The show will be an original story set in the Magic: The Gathering universe. That said, that doesn’t forbid some of the property’s more famous characters from popping up. After all, Planeswalkers can do that sort of thing. The animation will be handled by Bardel Studios, whom you may be familiar with through their work on Rick & Morty, Teen Titans Go!, and Netflix’s The Dragon Prince. Other than that, though, no other details have been announced.
