Amazon’s Lord of the Rings Series Set In The Second Age

The Lord of the Rings

One Ring to rule them all
One Ring to find them
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them

It has been confirmed that Amazon’s Lord of the Rings series will take place in the second age. And by the show’s official account, no less! You can’t discount that; a lot of stuff gets leaked these days.

So what does this mean for viewers. Well, it means that the series will follow a large number of events only really talked about in The Lord of the Rings. To put it more bluntly, its taking stuff from Tolkien’s associated works like The Silmarillion and making it into a series.

Notably, the map that the official Twitter account uploaded features Númenor. Númenor was the civilization of the first humans in Middle Earth, and by the time of the Third Age (the period The Lord of the Rings takes place in), it is considered a lost civilization.

To put this all bluntly, you should actually thank them for making this the seeming focus of the show. Because I can make it through classic literature like Moby Dick and Don Quixote just fine; The Silmarillion, on the other hand, is like literary Ambien. But it absolutely explains the history of Middle Earth; it is the reason that most fantasy writers are but pretenders at being like Tolkien. And, if they’re adapting that material into something that’s written to be enjoyed, it’s really going to be something.
