CES 2019: The mechanical bench press without weights

You heard me right! A weight-free bench press.

The Hiiga-One workout system is pretty darn cool and gives you a pretty decent workout. Or at least for a person that thinks heavy lifting is taking their MacBook Pro instead of their ChromeBook to shows like CES.

This weight-free, mechanical bench press machine is a bar that slots inside two supports where the weights should go and are instead filled with all sorts of technology. When you sit underneath it you the machine takes a reading of your strength and gives you a custom workout in return.

What’s really cool is that the machine can adjust weight on the fly, even adding additional weight on the way down to get you extra swole extra fast. And the bar always sits above you in the right spot so you won’t have to worry about it falling on you. I’m no lifter, but this is some real magic and a lot of fun to see in action.

Even better if that once you finish a set you’ll get a readout of your presses. You see your power output for each rep all with a neat little graph. It’s neat and I’m sure can be incorporated by serious lifters that love more data.

What does stink is that you won’t be able to get your hand on the Hiiga-One for your home gym when it launches sometime in the future. They team behind it are looking to get it into commercial gyms. Fair enough, and any gym with some of these machines will surly get the techies to sign up!
