Epic Games Store users turn to Steam for support issues

Steam forums are a lifesaver

The Epic Games Store has been up and running for a little while now. The store is slowly growing and is snagging a few games exclusive to the platform that should help entice more people to the platform. But there is trouble in paradise when it comes to game support for titles on the store.

Steam, for all the issues its had over the years, allows anyone to access dedicated forums for each title on its platform. Sure, some tiny indie game may only have a handful of people chatting about the game, or developers running away when they screw the pooch with fans, the fact that other fans are engaging means the world in many ways.

The most important of which is the ability to get help, whether that’s from the developers or other fans that have dealt with similar issues. When I have an issue with a game the first place I go to is the Steam forums to see who else has experienced and issue. And most every single time there is a fix or at least an open discussion with people figuring it out.

This is such a valuable tool to users that when people have issues with games on other store platforms, they head to Steam for a solution. One such case is with what’s going on with the Epic Games Store and Subnautica in particular.

A user on reddit (Revisor007) was scrolling through the Subnautica forum over on Steam and managed to find a number of threads with people looking for support. This isn’t out of the ordinary, but these users were specifically looking for help with the Epic Games Store version of the game.

And it isn’t just basic techical issues, but rather, issues that you’d only face if you ran the game through the Epic Games Store. Threads like “Can’t run Epic Games version without Epic Launcher anymore,” and “Where is the save location on Epic Games?” litter the Steam forum of the game.

I don’t know the first thing about creating a digital store front, but I do know that support is a huge deal. I know that if users can addresses fixes for you (or before you can get to them) like often is the case with the Steam forums, I’d darn sure want my platform to have it. This is even bigger on the agenda if I wanted to build a community around the store.
