Getting extradited.

Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou has been arrested in Vancouver, Canada under suspicion that she violated U.S. trade sanctions against Iran, according to The Globe and Mail. Huawei confirms that Meng, the daughter of company founder Ren Zhengfei, faces unspecified charges in the Eastern district of New York. Meng had boarded a connecting flight to Canada in the region. A Huawei Spokesperson gave this statement to TechCrunch:

The company has been provided very little information regarding the charges and is not aware of any wrongdoing by Ms. Meng. The company believes the Canadian and US legal systems will ultimately reach a just conclusion. Huawei complies with all applicable laws and regulations where it operates, including applicable export control and sanction laws and regulations of the UN, US and EU.

Meng Wanzhou was arrested on December 1st. A bail hearing has been set for this Friday.

Huawei has been smack-dab in the middle of the recent U.S.-China trade war. Earlier this year, President Trump signed a bill that would ban government agencies fro using the products and services provided by Huawei and it’s competitor, ZTE. Also, a recent letter sent from U.S. lawmakers to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau urges Canada to leave Huawei out of it’s 5G plans.
