Steam OS Powered Handheld Console Coming 2015

Is the world ready for a new portable handheld gaming unit? How about one based on the Steam OS tom Valve? Well, get ready because one is coming to market next year.

The recently announced SteamBoy (cute) will feature a Steam controller wrapped around a screen. In this day and age it seems crazy to release a new handheld in an already crowded market. We have multiple DS varieties as well as PSP devices and thats not counting the smartphones in most everyone’s pockets.

The SteamBoy (If it happens) would most likely make the unit the most powerful handheld as it would be a Steam Machine unit.

“SteamBoy won’t be as powerful as other announced Steam Machines in the same way [the] Nintendo 3DS or PS Vita performance is not comparable to Wii U or PlayStation 4,” the company told The Escapist. “However, it will be possible to play the majority of current games in Steam.”

The SteamBoy, announced at this years E3 event, will be a 5-inch device and include: A quad-core chip, 4GB RAM, 32GB internal storage and a 16:9 touchscreen.

One hopes that this SteamBoy will see the light of day and gain an audience. The last thing gamers need is another Gizmondo… or N-Gage… or Panasonic Jungle… or Virtual Boy… or Game.com. I could do this all day, but you get the idea.
