Battlefield V, like almost every other AA shooter game, is chasing trends instead of refining or evolving its gameplay with the inclusion of a battle royale mode. Unfortunately, those that are excited for getting in on the action are going to have to wait until 2019 to play the “Firestorm” battle royale mode.
The mode is part of Battlefield V’s post-launch roadmap and will land in the third chapter. It seems a little weird that it isn’t dropping on launch but it’s a really smart way to extend the game and continue to to build and keep it fresh. We shall see if this move helps the game compete with Call of Duty that has always edged it out in sales and players.
The Firestorm battle royale mode will support up to 64 players, split across teams of four players. What’s interesting to note is that DICE isn’t creating the mode and has left it up to the folks at Criterion to develop the mode. Meanwhile I’m still here waiting for the next Burnout game.
