Third Party Headset Mimics VR for Nintendo Switch

Switch

It’s like the Virtual Boy, only not.

VR has been the hot thing recent of late. But, aside from PSVR, none of the other major consoles have gone for it. But thanks to Exklim’s upcoming NS Glasses, you might get the next best thing to VR on the Switch.

Granted, they won’t provide a true VR experience. The Switch simply doesn’t support VR. Rather, what the NS Glasses do is use “color switching technology” to create a 3D effect. In a way,it’s similar to the 3D on the 3DS. It also has some form of pixel smoothing in it’s effect, giving the impression of a higher resolution. That is, despite the fact that the Switch always outputs at 720p.

There are some obvious downsides, though. Naturally, it’s not really VR, but that’s not necessarily a dealbreaker. The bigger issue is that you’re slotting the Switch into it, similar to those VR headsets for phones. The Switch weighs a little over half a pound, and the headset puts it a few inches away from your face. It may not seem like much, but it could put a bit more strain on your neck than usual.

On the plus side, since the NS Glasses are a passive experience, they’ll work with literally any Switch game you’d like. Also, the pre-orders open soon; pre-ordering grants you a 50%discount, knocking them down to about $50. They may not set the world on fire, but they could be a nice little thing to have.
