Bethesda announces Fallout 76

The fine folks over at Bethesda have announced a new game in the Fallout series with Fallout 76. The announcement came with a teaser trailer and a little introduction in the setting of Vault 76. We didn’t get much from the teaser as the team is saving up the big reveal for E3 in a few weeks.

But that didn’t stop the internet from doing its thing and breaking down the trailer to suck every bit of possible info from its marrow. The setting of Vault 76 is new, but it has popped up in name only throughout the series, with references being made in both Fallout 3 and 4.

Information gathered from those sources indicate that Vault 76 housed 500 people and was very different from the other Vaults around the country. Vault 76 was intended to be a control group the worked as intended (the other Vaults all had intentional flaws) and opened 20 years after the war.

The song playing in the trailer, something always important to the Fallout games, is “Country Roads” by John Denver. The song talk about heading home to West Virginia and could be a major hint that West Virginia will be the location for whatever this game might be.

We are still unclear on what type of game this is going to be. Our thoughts are that is isn’t going to be a traditional Fallout game like 3 and 4 were, but something a little different. Sources close to the matter have indicated that Fallout 76 is going to be an online survival RPG. They note the game was actually created as a test for a Fallout MMO, before changing to what will be announced at E3.

Stay tuned for our coverage from the floor at E3 for more information.
