Facebook Plans on Dating Feature

You should know exactly what video this is linked to by now.

Facebook is taking on the online dating world. They plan to soon allow users to opt in to the creation of a dating profile. This profile will only show up among users you’re not friends with. Not to mention the fact that, due to having a fair amount of information about your interests to begin with, it should zero in on common things quite quickly.

While, as my heading joke may imply, it sounds crazy, it probably isn’t. Plenty of couples have actually met thanks to Facebook in the past. What they’re doing is simply making those features that made those meetups possible standardized and overtly easy to use.

As Facebook explains it:

We’re building a feature for dating and relationships within the Facebook app. People already use Facebook to meet new people, and we want to make that experience better. People will be able to create a dating profile that is separate from their Facebook profile — and potential matches will be recommended based on dating preferences, things in common, and mutual friends. They’ll have the option to discover others with similar interests through their Groups or Events. However, what people do within the dating feature will not be shown to their friends. We’ll share more information when this begins testing later this year.

So who knows? Maybe you’ll meet Ms. (or Mr.) Right through Facebook in the future. Has to beat the hell out of getting new, random venereal diseases thanks to Tinder, right?
