Rumor: Final Fantasy VII Remake Might Not Be Too Well Off

Final Fantasy VII

Off course!

There are definitely fans that are salivating over the remake of Final Fantasy VII (I’m not one of them, it’s not even the game I played back when anymore). And they’ll be sad to hear that it might be in a bit of trouble. Because that trouble could be a set back of epic proportions.

According to reports, Square Enix dumped most of the progress from the last year. It had partnered with CyberConnect2 (.Hack, Solatorobo) to deal with some video and gameplay issues. Supposedly things didn’t work out as they hoped, and the game has been set back.

But things get more interesting thanks to a Reddit thread on the game’s progress. Dan Tsukasa, supposedly Final Fantasy VII‘s art director (the remake, I guess), made an appearance in the thread. And a lot of what he had to say wasn’t pointing towards good things. While SE says the game’s had 4 years of work, he states that it’s really more like two, among other things. most of the below is patched together from what others saved.

I’ll explain it this way. When has a company taking work away from another company ever been a positive sign of things? I know CyberConnects work was unusable, I’ve worked with them before, i know their level.

And i know they outsourced to hell and back in order to get things to the point we saw them publicly, and it still wasn’t enough to save them.

I’m not speculating though. I’ve worked with these people and know people working still at both Square and CC2, I’m explaining what happened from what I know.

I’m unsure how to prove it though, I can’t get into any issues by saying what I’ve heard, or what’s common knowledge in the industry here (the common knowledge being that the project was taken from CC2 because it was so behind schedule), but if I were to name anyone working there, they’d get into trouble for sharing information, the same way I’d get into trouble if I shared information about where I work.

So with that said, I can only prove I work in the game industry in Japan, can’t prove who I do and don’t know.

A lot of his posts were deleted. Along with his account. And, to make things even better, he seems to have deleted all of his social media accounts, too. Twitter, ArtStation, DeviantArt, etc. All gone. So it’s important to take what he said with a grain of salt.
