MoviePass Makes a Negative Shift

MoviePass

You’re getting less, now, and the original deal may never come back.

Well, I guess the gravy train had to end eventually. MoviePass is changing what its service provides for new subscribers. Now, new subscribers will be able to see 4 movies a month.

But don’t worry; you may not get unlimited movies a month, but they’re softening the blow. When you sign up, they’re throwing in a three month trial for iHeartRadio’s All Access subscription.

There’s one other big change, though. Now, you can’t see “select” movies more than once. What is a select movie? Why can’t you see it more than once if you’re willing to burn another free ticket on it? Who knows! They don’t explain any of that.

Users who bought their year’s subscription upfront aren’t affected by these changes… yet. But this seems a sign that MoviePass wasn’t able to get the back-end of their business model running the way they thought, and more than that, insisted they could. Which is a shame, because heretofore the service was definitely worth having.

Smoke ’em while you got ’em, I guess. Unless MoviePass can fix things and make the whole plan work, they might not be around too much longer.
