Fast & Furious gets Animated for Netflix

Fast & Furious

Wanna race?

An animated series for Fast & Furious is headed to Netflix, courtesy of DreamWorks Animation. The series follows Tony Toretto, teenage cousin of the film’s Dom, as he and his friends get recruited by a government agency. Their mission? To infiltrate a racing league serving as a front for a criminal organization that’s trying to take over the world.

We are excited to extend and expand our successful relationship with Netflix by not only delivering more high-quality DreamWorks programming, but connecting fans of Universal films with fascinating new stories […] Our new home at Universal marks an exciting new chapter for storytelling at our studio, and Fast & Furious is only the beginning.

– President of DreamWorks Animation Television, Margie Cohn

The series will be in pretty good hands, too. Tim Hedrick, who wrote for DreamWorks’ Voltron: Legendary Defender, and Bret Haaland, who produced All Hail King Julian and The Penguins of Madagascar will both be on as executive producers and showrunners. And of course Vin Diesel, Neal Moritz and Chris Morgan are on to executive produce as well.

We are thrilled to take our fantastic partnership with DreamWorks Animation to the next level with new opportunities from the vast library of Universal Pictures […] The ‘Fast & Furious’ franchise is a global phenomenon beloved by audiences of all ages, and we can’t wait to get started on the new animated series that will capture the action, heart, humor and global appeal of the feature films.

– Melissa Cobb, vice president of kids and family for Netflix

While other details are light, like where in the crazy Fast & Furious timeline the show takes place, there’s one thing you can probably expect. And that’s for the show to tell physics where to stuff itself.
