Now you can look like there’s something wrong with you in broad daylight!
A collaboration between Johnson & Johnson and Transitions Optical may lead to the first Transitions contact lenses. Heretofore, Transitions technology has previously only been available in glasses, meaning that a trip into bright sunlight would require those wearing contacts to bring a separate pair of sunglasses.
Johnson & Johnson has apparently spent the last 10 years adapting the tech for use in contact lenses. And , after many clinical trials, the lenses have been give the go ahead by the FDA. So you can expect the first sets to hit the market in 2019.
As a final aside, the lenses are 2 week disposables. Other than that, they’re just like Transitions lenses in normal glasses; darkening when exposed to UV light, and lightening when no longer exposed. So they’re probably going to look kinda weird on people for the first few months of the year.
