Soon enough, you’ll be bumping into shit in your living room like you’re supposed to.
That’s right, HTC plans on making your VR experience wire free, without forcing you to buy a new HTC Vive headset.
Among the peripherals HTC showed off at CES, the wireless adapter is likely the crown jewel. The adapter runs off of Intel’s WiGig technology to “operate in the interference-free 60Ghz band, which means lower latency and better performance”. While battery life may be a concern, HTC only offers that it will “meet the most discerning quality bar”.
Also shown off was the HTC Vive Pro headset. It offers better sound and video quality. It even has noise cancellation built in. It’s also been built to be more comfortable, including a knob that allows you to adjust the size of the headset. And yes, the wireless adapter will work with it.
There isn’t an announced release date or price for either the adapter or Pro headset. That said, if you’re into VR, you’re probably champing at the bit.
