Overwatch: Doomfist is Live on the PTR

The wait is over

That’s right, believe your eyes. After the longest series of teases, Doofist is now playable in Overwatch… on the PTR. Naturally, they couldn’t just dump him in the main game without a few crowdsourced tweaks. Jeff Kaplan went over his inclusion, as well:

Notably, Doomfist is a high-ranking member of the council that leads Talon, which probably means he’s Reaper’s boss. Always second fiddle eh, Gabriel? Since Overwatch doesn’t have a campaign, though, most of his background is just cool to know.

What’s really a big deal is his kit. His standard fire is four shotguns embedded in his left fist; even Jeff said they’re mostly just to fill space for his abilities. His Rocket Fist lets him bypass shields (sorry Reinhardt), and does more damage when you knock a character back into an obstacle. He has a Shoryuken Tiger Uppercut Rising Uppercut which launches his opponent, as well as himself into the sky. And that’s where Seismic Slam comes in; whenever he’s airborne, Doomfist can slam the ground on landing, dealing damage and drawing enemies towards him. Whenever he deals ability damage, his passive gives him a shield that degrades over time. And his heroic, Meteor Smash, is like the love child of a four way between Seismic Slam, High Noon, Jump Pack and Earthshatter.  Though Pharah players can probably tell you how vulnerable you’ll be in the air.

There is one sad thing to note, however; Terry Crews isn’t voicing him. Doomfist is voiced by Sahr Ngaujah (Money Monster, Stomp the Yard). That said, there may be hope some time down the line. Terry’s been super enthusiastic about voicing an Overwatch character, after all.

Someone’s about to need a whole lotta healing. Blizzard

~I have no idea who animated that trailer, but it was good.~
