SEGA Eyeing a Revival of their Major IP’s

Yeah, SEGA’s deciding to revive old IP’s! What brought this on, you might ask? Well aside from the drive to be the very best, they are also currently basking in the success of Persona 5 and Total War: Warhammer.

In their Road to 2020 Business Presentation, SEGA lays out their strategy which includes the use of internal and external IP’s to create global hits. And I’m willing to bet that few of the internal ones will involve a certain blue hedgehog snooPINGAS usual.

Sega Sonic
Don’t get me wrong, I love the blue dude as much as the next guy, but man cannot survive on hedgehog alone. SEGA

I was a SEGA kid back in the day. Really think back to when they were at the height of their craft. They had so many franchises over the years that just never got the same push Sonic did. Imagine playing a new Golden Axe or Streets of Rage online with your friends. Imagine a new Shining Force or Phantasy Star game (and I’m not talking online).

Hell, think back on all of the games that didn’t get more than a sequel, if they were lucky. Some of their best IP’s have sat dormant for nearly a quarter century. Sure, we might all walk away with egg on our faces again. But that’s the sort of news that puts a bit of fire in your spirit.

And if that doesn’t do it, just think of the soundtracks.
