Joss Whedon to write and direct the ‘Batgirl’ solo film

It’s a bit strange that we are getting a Batgirl solo film before a Nightwing film, but I’m not one to complain as I’m a huge fan of the character. That said, what the hell is up with Robin in this new universe? No wonder Batman is such a prick.

Joss Whedon (Avengers) is no stranger to the superhero world and one hopes that his more colorful take with Marvel brings some much needed color to a very drab DC universe. Whedon isn’t a done deal, but Variety is reporting that a deal is very close to being inked for Wedon to write, ,direct, and produce the project.

Batgirl would be the second DC film to star a female lead after “Wonder Woman,” that opens this summer. DC is also developing a number of other projects including “Gotham City Sirens,”  a spinoff from the middling “Suicide Squad” film starring Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn; “The Batman” solo film; “Shazam” starring The Rock; and solo films for both Flash and Cyborg.

DC and Warner Bros. have had some stumbles with regards to their movie universe, but the duo is finally finding its footing, and more importantly its own voice in the superhero space. Let’s hope things keep looking up and that Marvel doesn’t kill the superhero genre after Infinity War.
