By The Numbers: Mass Effect: Andromeda

Mass Effect: Andromeda releases tomorrow and for all the jokes at the games expense, thanks to the shoddy animations, some critics seem to be enjoying the game, even if their scores don’t reflect that.

There are a lot of concerns out there regarding those animations, but critics are also noting issues with the story, world, pacing and the juicy center of the game that requires quite the slog to get to.

But what I find the most interesting is that the two highest review scores from legitimate/established press, comes from two outlets that don’t cater to video games; Forbes and The National Post.

Let’s check out the scores from around the internet and see what the critics are saying.

85% – Forbes

“I have a feeling that Mass Effect fans will enjoy the game, but I don’t think anyone will claim it outclasses the original trilogy, outside of maybe the very first game.” – Pual Tassi

85% – The National Post

“But for each hour I spent participating in humdrum combat I spent at least two or three engaged in thought provoking conversation” – Chad Sapieha

4/5 – Attack of the Fanboy

“Mass Effect: Andromeda fails to deliver a compelling plot and the journey to a whole new galaxy offers little that’s new or exciting.” –  Kyle Hanson

80% – PC Gamer

“Even if you accept that Mass Effect is a sci-fi universe where the aliens all look and sound a bit human, Andromeda can feel like a remix of old ideas.” – Chris Thrusten

80% – Game Informer

“Lurking beneath the ups and downs of the Andromeda’s gameplay and story is a baffling network of technical issues, clunky menus, and unexplained systems.” – Joe Juba

80% – Critical Hit

“If Andromeda has egregious faults beyond its occasionally sophomoric it’s that it just doesn’t really do enough that’s fresh.” – Geoffrey Tim

75% – DualShockers

“Perhaps Mass Effect Andromeda will serve as a wake-up call for BioWare, letting them realize that it’s time to evolve beyond the change of setting and cast.” – Giuseppe Nelva

77% – IGN

“Mass Effect: Andromeda is an expansive action role-playing game with a few great moments that recapture the high points of the landmark trilogy that came before it” – Dan Stapleton

70% – Hardcore Gamer

Mass Effect: Andromeda is an unbalanced experience. It’s an incredibly ambitious game with a colossal scope, but it doesn’t always hit the right notes.” – Adam Beck

60% – GameSpot

“In many ways, Andromeda feels like a vision half-fulfilled. It contains a dizzying amount of content, but the quality fluctuates wildly.” – Scott Butterworth

55% – VentureBeat

“Mass Effect: Andromeda might’ve worked a decade ago on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, but it doesn’t work in a world that is delivering games like Horizon: Zero Dawn, Nier: Automata, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” – Jeff Grubb
