JMJ Interactive’s Akihabara – a stylish rhythm-based game featuring the iconic Akihabara district – is now available on mobile (iOS/Android) and Steam. That said the Steam reviews aren’t all that kind, but I’ve talked about the disdain users have for mobile ports on the platform.
The rules are simple: Time your actions to the rhythm and the Beat Marker as you change icons while jamming to the electro-infused soundtrack before they fill up the grid. Cycle through icons by tapping on your screen (or by pressing the up key or left clicking, depending on your device) as the Beat Marker passes over them on the grid to create matches of three or more. To earn a “Good” or “Perfect” score multiplier bonus, sync your actions to the beat by changing icons right as the Beat Maker passes over a grid line!
You can activate the special “Super Icon” by chaining together multiple “Good” and “Perfect” ratings to fill your Super Charge meter. Once triggered, the Super Icon will destroy everything in a 3×3 grid wherever it lands. Want an even bigger challenge? Try increasing the difficulty settings to see if you can move to Akihabara’s rhythm. Harder difficulty settings increase the minimum amount of icons required to trigger a match:
- Easy = 3 icons
- Normal = 4 icons
- Hard = 5 icons
Experience 10 levels of high tempo music in Campaign mode – or enjoy individual levels unlocked during your campaign in Single Track mode. Once you complete the campaign, a special bonus “Midnight Mix” mode will be unlocked with 5 mellow track remixes. Show everyone you’re the ultimate beat master by earning 15 different achievements – and rake in enough points to grab a spot on the cross-platform online leaderboards.

Pricing & Availability
Akihabara is available on the App Store and Google Play for $2.99, and on the Windows Store for $6.99. On Steam, the game can be purchased for 15% off until February 1 ($5.94). I’ll never understand these radical price differences but then again, I’m not in marketing.
EDM enthusiasts can also purchase the game’s soundtrack for $5.99 ($5.39 after a 10% launch discount) – and a deluxe package containing the soundtrack plus the game is available for 25% off (35% until February 1).
