Xbox One Exclusive ‘Scalebound’ Has Been Canceled

The Xbox One is a fine console, but it isn’t doing so hat against the PS4 after some very early, and very public missteps. Scalebound was supposed to be one of the games that would make the Xbox One stand out from the crowd.

Microsoft tapped Platinum Games to create the Xbox One exclusive RPG, and with their pedigree everything was laid out to almost assure a fantastic title. RPG’s have always been rare on the Xbox (any Xbox) and exclusive ones are almost non-existent, so you can imagine that a lot was riding on Scalebound as Microsoft featured the game in their E3 lineup.

Fans were excited initally about the project as the Scalebound was being helmed by Bayonetta and Devil May Cry director Hideki Kamiya.  He even went as far as calling Scalebound a personal passion project of his.

Scalebound was shown off at E3 2016 and the reaction from the press and fans was, well, mixed. It looked pretty, but I said it looked “Pretty generic” when we talked about the game offerings from Microsoft with the GAMbIT team.

Well, now we have word that the game has been canceled by Microsoft. Speaking with IGN a Microsoft spokesperson stated that:

“After careful deliberation, Microsoft Studios has come to the decision to end production for Scalebound. We’re working hard to deliver an amazing lineup of games to our fans this year, including Halo Wars 2, Crackdown 3, State of Decay 2, Sea of Thieves and other great experiences,” reads the statement.”

You’d think making an RPG about a guy with a dragon companion would have winner written all over it.
