I admit this was a little bit of a surprise. Divinity III: Komandar Bloodshot #1 is a cool book with a connection between the worlds of Divinity’s series and that of Bloodshot’s. It’s maybe more influenced by the second one, but with enough background and style from the first to have a balance between the two of them.
There are also enough action scenes here for readers to get really excited about. We all know that a good fight is always going to keep the public paying attention, and I’m all for it, as long as people don’t overuse it and sacrifice story.
I’m intrigued with what is going on in this world, how the stories get together which is probably the main reason I’ll be reading the series in the new year. The plot here is different than the norm, and I’m not sure what you guys will think on this one, but it works for me quite nicely.
Valiant may be trying to do all the things, and that’s something I respect and praise, but that may not work for everyone. I’m sort of in the middle with this one; It’s not great, but not terrible at the same time and really more strange than anything.
Divinity III: Komandar Bloodshot #1 offers a couple of great large panels with some nice art. I’m more interested in the overall distribution they use for the pages, and since things play in a new way this time, I’m finding it more elaborate than other Valiant comics (and trust me, I’ve read a lot this year).
Artistically, this issue also presents the best sides of both worlds, with the sharp inks and wild style from Bloodshot and the raw coloring and pencils from Divinity. Because of this, if you liked the Britannia miniseries and the two issues we got from Savage, you’ll fall in love with the overall art in this issue.
The lettering was another good element in Divinity III: Komandar Bloodshot #1. It’s all very fluid, clean, with some amazing effects and pop in the right occasions. The bright colors matched the letters well, with visually appealing contrasts in more than one panel thanks to the different tones. I still see some of them in my mind thanks to this.
Despite being entertaining, this new chapter was a bit little confusing for a number of reasons, mostly on the story, but I’m sure the people working on it will make sure that everything makes sense sooner than expected. Valiant has already surprised me before, and this series could be one of those times. Let’s keep an eye on it just in case something really great develops.
