Bloodshot USA #2

It feels like an eternity since I read the first issue in this series, but I can say that it was worth the wait! Bloodshot USA #2 was a real adventure, full of action that made for an entertaining read. It was such a good time that it’s hard to find much to fault here.

The script here is like a prequel to the final climax, a backstage look at the real end of the story. Things work well and everything flows well. There is not as much filler as I expected with an issue like this, but there is substance, and that was a relief to see/read!

I was beginning to ask myself: If Bloodshot USA is the final episode in the series, then how are they going to make four issues worth without overusing the characters? Valiant proved itself by answering that question, and if you want to know how, go get your copy of Bloodshot USA #2. I’m sure you’ll be surprised and I don’t want to spoil things. Just know they pulled it off.

I didn’t see as much of the disaster PRS has created in the city, so it would make sense to do it on the next issue of Bloodshot USA. I’m imagining something very similar to the final seconds of Resident Evil: Retribution. Besides being a great film (Ed Note: Really?) , that final moment could work nicely as a sketch for similar scenes.

What I’m curious about right now, is how such a small group of heroes are going to repair all of that damage of that wretched city, with no help. In my opinion adding more characters won’t be a good option, as it could become a mess of a plot; Livewire is still strange to see for me, but there are a couple of options I hope these people take into account.

Another component I loved about Bloodshot USA #2 was the coloring. It’s so consistent and matching everything going on perfectly. All of the scenes had a different palette, depending on the environment, the characters’ emotion and the drama in play. Valiant surely knows how to put the best teams together!

The lettering was a little confusing on some pages. Sometimes it was hard to follow things in the order that they had laid out. It didn’t flow  as naturally as it should have, but this only came up a few times. In general it was all very comfortable on the eyes with everything coming together like a puzzle.

Bloodshot USA #2 looks very similar to the previous series, and despite this, there’s still some sense of originality with the overall aesthetic. It looks darker and has a more mature tone and look overall. The final scene looks a little out of place in the moment because of its nature, but it still matches the overall feel of book.

It will be interesting to see what will happen next in the lives of these guys, and what Valiant is going to do with the new Bloodshots after the series finale. I’ll be waiting with bated breath!
