How To Disable Lot’s of Google’s Personal Tracking “Features”

Google

Google is a massive company. So massive that sometimes I feel like it wants to take over the world, or at the very least know as much about it as possible. We know that Google tracks our data, a LOT of our data, but we sort of put up with it because they make pretty much everything we use online.

But if you, like myself, aren’t all that comfortable with Google tracking you to “make your online experience better” then you can turn off a lot of those features via their activity page. The process is pretty simple so feel free to try it out for yourself.

  1. CLICK HERE to find your My Activity page.
  2. Click the menu button ( top-right of the page).
  3. Click “Activity Controls.”
  4. Turn that shit off

From the “Activity Controls” screen you can check out just what Google is tracking. There is a lot including stuff like websites, location, YouTube history, and even voice recording, because that’s totally something they need. Google has tracking integrated with a lots of their services so be warned that you may lose some functionality, but if you weren’t using these things before you probably won’t miss them.

This won’t keep Google completely out of your business as they may still be collecting anonymized data, but at least that stuff doesn’t have your name attached to it.
