Apple announces most boring iPhone yet with the iPhone 7

Apple has long been a company of innovation. They created the iPhone, the first major smartphone device and ushered the world into a new age of information, albeit really slow on that old EDGE network here in the States. But after Steve Jobs passed away the company has struggled to do the very thing that made them great –Innovate.

The new iPhone 7 is not the smartphone that the company needed. If anything, it is yet again a new model of smartphone that is simply playing catch-up to the Android devices that have already been on the market for a generation. In fact, the iPhone 7 has the honor of having the smallest design change in company history. It truly does look and feel like an “S” model more than anything.

The biggest change comes in the form of dual cameras that the iPhone sports on a little bump on the rear. Both models will have these cameras, but the iPhone 7 Plus will be able to, “shoot as one for high-res optical zoom at 2x”. The new phones will come with a “low-light loving” 12-megapixels camera with optical image stabilization.

To be fair this all sounds great… Two years ago! As I write this thing I am watching my LG V10, which is now a generation old, light up with messages and tweets. That phone has a more powerful camera (also has dual cameras, although front facing for those selfies) with a manual shooting mode that puts any iPhone to shame.

But hey, the new iPhone 7 models are water resistant so that new. Hold on a sec. Um Hmm. Yeah? Well then… Ladies and gentlemen, I’m being told by my producer that does not exist that lots of smartphones have been water resist for ages now.

Sorry Apple, but this new model does little to push the market forward. at least you can rest easy knowing that grandparents around the world will be upgrading to the iPhone 7 this Christmas!
