John Boyega To Star In Pacific Rim 2

Pacific Rim 2

The apocalypse will be canceled once again as Star Wars: The Force Awakens star John Boyega has signed on to play a role in Pacific Rim 2. No word on his character, but we do know that he will be playing the lead of the flick along with some yet to be named friends.

One can only hope that he is playing the son of Stacker Pentecost who was played in the forest film by Idris Elba. Many on the internet are already coming up with silly names for his character, but our favorite is “Pacific Finn” as coined by the people over at iO9.

Guillermo Del Toro had the following to say on the casting via the official press release:

I am very proud and happy to welcome John into a fantastic sandbox. The Pacific Rim universe will be reinforced with him as a leading man as it continues to be a multicultural, multi-layered world. ‘The World saving the world’ was our goal and I couldn’t think of a better man for the job.

This news couldn’t be more welcome as the status of Pacific Rim 2 has been in question for some time. First it’s on, then it’s not, and then it is again. The fact that we have some definite casting news means things are finally starting to take shape.
