Mighty No. 9 Releases On June 21st (So They Say)

Mighty No. 9

Mighty No. 9 has been a masterclass in how not to run a video game Kickstarter. It also showed us that being a much-loved developer/creator does not mean they a good at running a business. The game was originally funded all the way back in 2013… Yeah, it’s been a few years of work getting this “indie” game out to backers. The original release date was scheduled for April of 2015, but after a year of delays we now are hearing a hard date of June 21st of 2016.

After missing three release dates and even managing to screw up the demo release that was put into place to appease bakers, it’s hard to not take this new release date as a hard fact. Still, after playing the game several times over the past year at a number of conventions around the country, it’ll be nice to finally see this thing come out.

Developer Keji Inafune made a statement regarding the release saying,

Firstly, I would like to say again how sincerely sorry we are for how long we have kept all of our fans waiting. We are finally able to deliver some long awaited news regarding Mighty No. 9. We have now confirmed the following release dates for Mighty No. 9: June 21st 2016 (North America & Asia) and June 24th 2016 (World Wide). We understand that as a result of the various delays we have disappointed and let down our fans, but we are happy to finally be able to deliver the game to everyone who brought us this far.

Here’s to hoping the game actually makes it out. Who wants to place bets it’ll miss its release date, even if only by a few days? At least we all learned that backing Kickstarter projects is a pretty dumb thing to do.
