There is nothing more American that baseball, apple pie, and Lord Gaben bestowing upon us a Steam sale. But sometimes these sales can allow people to get out of hand with spending a bit more that they probably should. Case in point is the story of Congressman Duncan Hunter (the guy who vaped during an official hearing…), who is currently being questioned by Federal Election Commission (FEC) members about how he spend some of his campaign funds.
It seems Congressman Hunter has allegedly spent $1,302 from money set aside for his campaign to snatch up some of those sweet deals during a Steam sale. The charges in question comes from October 13 to December 16, so this places it during Steam’s world-famous annual holiday sale. The Congressman claims that his son used his card (apparently tied to campaign funds) to purchase a game once time, but that all other charges were unauthorized.
The Congressman is claiming that his account was hacked, but that has yet to be determined by officials. It should be noted that the use of campaign funds for personal expenses is not allowed. Although many politicians do use them in this manner, but reimburse the fund later down the road to avoid trouble.
There are of course much larger issues to be dealing with in Washington, but I’d still be really interested in what games were purchased. Is the Congressman more an Elder Scrolls or Might & Magic guy? Is he more Call of Duty than Battlefield? Does he swing AAA or Indie? These are the burning questions voters want to know!
