By The Numbers: Dark Souls 3

Dark Souls 3

Dark Souls 3 is finally here! And while I’m not a huge fan of the series (I tried to get into Dark Souls 2, but it just never clicked) I know the impact the series has had on the gaming populace has been massive. Heck, one of our contributors here is a huge fan as I constantly get notifications from Steam that he’s playing one of the Dark Souls games almost daily. So while we may not be covering the game with an in-depth review, we can roundup the reviews from the other major outlets so you can see how the game is doing. Be sure to check each out and support these other great writers from within out industry.

The Telegraph – 5 out of 5

“…a high-profile game that still dares to go against the grain despite its ever growing popularity.”  – Sayem Ahmed

The Daily Dot – 5 out of 5

“Like its predecessors, it is ripe for flawless playthrough videos while also being newcomer-friendly, thanks to the level grinding.” – Miguel Concepcion

Hardcore Gamer – 4.5 out of 5

“Regardless, outside of some mishandled shortcuts and bonfires, Dark Souls III almost feels like a hybrid between Dark Souls and Demon’s Souls.” – Adam Beck

IGN – 9.5 out of 10

“Having access to a versatile arsenal of destruction is handy, because Dark Souls 3’s roster of relentless horrors hit harder and sometimes faster than ever.” – Chloi Rad

PC Gamer – 94%

“Like it’s predecessors, Dark Souls 3 is an eerie Japanese spin on western fantasy that tells a surreal story in broad, vague strokes.” – James Davenport

Game Informer – 9.25 out of 10

” Discovering something small that leads to something so huge later on feels great, and you become addicted to this meticulous curiosity/reward loop.” – Daniel Track

The Jimquisition – 9 out of 10

“If I’ve to pinpoint one major issue with Dark Souls III, however, it’s just how much it relies on the original Dark Souls for its narrative and structural cues.” – Jim Sterling

Paste Magazine – 8.8 out of 10

“The rules may change between entries, but the techniques are the same.” – Suriel Vazquez

Destructoid – 8.5 out of 5

“Playing through Dark Souls III, as enthralling as it may have been, had me at odds.” – Chris Carter

Gamespot – 8 out of 10

“The combat fluctuates between measured duels and frantic fights, but it almost always manages to keep things fair: you may be outnumbered and underpowered, but defeat is usually your fault.” – Mike Mahardy

Polygon – 7 out of 10

Dark Souls 3‘s level design feels less … intentional, in a way that extends well beyond the size or complexity of the world.” – Philip Kollar

Those are some pretty solid scores from a wide range of publications. Dark Souls 3 will no doubt do well for From Software and even though the last game wasn’t my cup of tea, I may just have to pick this one up and give it a try outside of work hours.
