Doctor Who gets a spinoff with Class

Take note Whovians, Tardits, Wibbler-Wobblers, K-9ers, or whatever else you people call yourselves -Doctor Who is getting a new spinnoff show! The BBC has just announced this new series, called Class, is coming to air with the help of Steven Moffatt, Brian Minchin and YA author Patrick Ness, who is serving as the showrunner for this new Who based show. Class will be targeted to the teenage audience, much in the same way the Sarah Jane Adventures was targeted to younger children.

The network has let it be known that “Class” will be made up of eight 45-minute episodes. The setting sees a new cast of characters at Coal Hill School, a recurring location in the Doctor Who universe. Speaking with the BBC Patrick Ness stated that,

I’m astounded and thrilled to be entering the Doctor Who universe, which is as vast as time and space itself. There’s so much room there for all kinds of amazing stories, and to work with Steven Moffat and Brian Minchin to find a place to tell one of my own has been an absolute joy. I can’t wait for people to meet the heroes of Class, to meet the all-new villains and aliens, to remember that the horrors of the darkest corners of existence are just about on par with having to pass your A-Levels.

Class (sort of a weird name to say out loud) is set to begin shooting sometime in the spring of 2016, with a television premiere the same year. No word on any cast yet, but one can expect a visit from The Doctor at least once, or at the very least a few old companions.
