Vixen – Episode 5

So bad lady had Mari at gunpoint. She makes her very reasonable demand for the totem once again. Mari’s response? Sure, fuck it, you can have it if you give me the answers to the questions connected to it. Too bad that, as the Professor points out after she can’t remove it like it was some kind of cursed artifact, it has bonded with her.

“Don’t you hate it when your flannel shirt and jeans semi-permanently adhere to your body?” – George Lucas… not a real quote.

Ol’ Yellow Eyes points out that there’s only one way for it to come off now, and Mari tries to chameleon off. She makes it onto the ledge just outside of the window before she’s spotted. Which she uses as a cue to try and cheetah off. Unfortunately, ledges tend to be straight, and so is the path a bullet generally takes. They wing her in the shoulder.

And she falls off a building again. I’m beginning to think she should avoid heights.

When she wakes up, she finds herself in a new location. Bad lady is there, and asks Mari if she was serious when she said that she would just give her the totem. Mari reiterates that she’d happily trade it for answers about her family, so long as removing it doesn’t involve killing her. She tells Mari she’s in luck, then.

Vixen
“So Obi Wan never told you. No, I am your sister. Maury Povich never lies!”

Not only did she kidnap Mari, she kidnapped her all the way to their home village in Africa: Zambesi. Mari is rightfully pissed about this. Her sister tells her the story of how the totem came into their ancestor’s hands. She mentions that she was four when she was chosen to bear the totem. Unfortunately warlords showed up, wrecked their shit, and killed Mari’s father. Their mother fled with nothing more than the clothes on her back, the totem, and baby Mari, presumably leaving her sister to inherit the whole village.

Vixen
Who wouldn’t want all of this?

She tells Mari that her obligation to protect the empty, burned down village still remains, and that she made bargains with others to uphold it; bargains involving the totem’s power. She tells Mari that there really is only one way to get the totem back, and that it’s a shame as they had just been reunited. Mari drops the best response to this lunacy possible and tries to jet, only to be caught by her sister’s suits. They hold her as her sister grabs hold of a spider that she forces to bite Mari because of the whole symbolism of Anansi and all. Mari gets bitten, but rhino chucks the goons several feet and runs off. As the daylight wanes, however, the poison takes effect, and her sister catches up, finally taking the totem from her all but dead sister.

Final Thoughts:

  • Her name is Kuasa. She never introduces herself, which seems to be something of a problem for this series. I had to get this from the end credits.
  • They must’ve had her on the good shit to transport her all the way to Africa without waking her up.
  • Why would you choose a four year old to protect your village?!
